    Hello;

    I’m new to the whole wordpress idea, but as I started it I was looking for a plugin for a student registration system, I installed both cart66 and classdex but as I’m new to this i did not know how to get the form to appear on my website and how to start using it ??

    And I have another issue, does classdex use a database or do I need to connected to one?, I have a RDS MySQL database hosted with the amazon and I’m running my wordpress website on EC2 windows instant.

    Hope to hear from you soon.

    Hi Sarah,

    ClassDex shares the same database that WordPress uses, so if wordpress is working, then ClassDex will be fine.

    ClassDex has an administrative interface that is accessed from the WordPress Dashboard, where you can create classes, add customers, edit settings, etc. The part of ClassDex that users see is added to pages with shortcodes (http://howtononprofit.wordpress.com/classdex/shortcodes-display-classes-on-your-site/).

    Full documentation can be found here: http://howtononprofit.wordpress.com/classdex/

    Hope that helps!

    Hello;

    Thanks;

    But if I understood correctly you mean that classdex is not used by the student to register directly through our website ” I mean the form is not displayed on our website where they can insert their info, instead the admin will need to collect their information and register them.

    Regards

    Hey Sarah,

    There’s a little of both:

    Students can register on your website and pay for their classes. However, the tracking of this needs to be manually done — once the student’s information is entered for the first time, this is actually a very quick process.

    Hey John;

    Thank you for your help,

    But how can I make the registration form appear on my website so student can register and how can I keep track with this process “i.e.. after a student registers how can I get his information “;

    And also can I connect this to an AWS RDS MySQL Database or not;

    Regards

    Sarah

    Hi Sarah,

    To display the registration form on your website, use one of the ClassDex shortcodes described here: http://howtononprofit.wordpress.com/classdex/shortcodes-display-classes-on-your-site/

    Users click “Add to Cart” to register for a class — this part of the process is handled by Cart66. The payment method is set up through Cart66, but Paypal Standard Web Payments is a simple integration option. Once payment is made through Paypal (or whatever payment method you choose), you will receive a receipt from paypal letting you know the customer’s name, address, phone, the classes that they registered for, and the total payment made. All of this information needs to be manually entered in the ClassDex backend. For detailed description of the process please read the documentation: http://howtononprofit.wordpress.com/classdex/

    As far as database integration goes, I’m really not sure what you are attempting to do with that database, so it’s difficult for me to answer your question. ClassDex uses the same MySQL database that WordPress uses. If you want it to integration with a separate database (something other than the database that WordPress runs on), then you would need to create that integration yourself. There are no built-in options for addition database integration.

    Best,
    John

    Hi Sarah,

    The link the I gave you is a link to instructions for how to set up your website. I spent a good amount of time to create this documentation. It goes through all of the important steps for setting up ClassDex on your site. ClassDex is not a simple program, so it will take some time to learn how to use it properly. Please take some time to read through all of this documentation: http://howtononprofit.wordpress.com/classdex/

    If you still have questions after reading the documentation, I’ll be happy to help.

    Thanks,
    John
