    Dear everybody,

We're thinking about opening a blog for our small tour operator company. I'm just trying to figure out how to start. On the website it says I should either choose my host or make a free account. One thing I don't know is what's the difference? Do we need a host?

And then I've seen I can make a free account and have xy.wordpress.com for free or choose mydomainname.com for usd 13 a year. Can one change that with the time, or would we have to make this decision straight away?

I've seen as well one can download WordPress - and if I understood right, one can as well work on an online platform. Am I misunderstanding something? If not, what's the difference again?

Obviously I'm no programmer, I would just like to set up an account and play a bit before I see if we should go with it and if I would be capable of running it..

Sorry for all this beginner question & thank you for your time :)

You can play around on wordpress.COM to get a basic understanding of how things work

As per the link @Gabe provided, wordpress.COM might be easier to start with, but wordpress.ORG has more power - and more learning involved

with .ORG you need a host, you run the show! You don't download wordpress and use it, you download it to then move the files to your host to install it (although, many hosts now offer 1 click wordpress installation)
