Support » Plugin: Post My CF7 Form » How to specify which/change default category the form should posts to?

    Hello!

I am trying to change one of my forms to instead post to a different category (rather than default), how does one do this?

Cannot find a filter that does this directly or something in the FAQ that explains this, maybe I’ve missed it..

Originally I opted to putting a hidden select menu with a filter to display only that category, however I need the post category hook free to allow the user to select a child category (only one “Post Category” is able to be assigned/mapped).

I also tried using a dropdown menu and (I assumed) with the user choosing the child category it would also use the parent category, but it does not do that.. I mean this would be my saviour, but no, so maybe this is a bug or unintended?

is it visible in the list of taxonomies listed in the mapping dropdown?

    You mean this?

Yes and no. Like I mentioned, I can get it to be listed, but as I need to include also an option to choose a child category for the user, that takes it away from the list. As in I cannot use two at a time.

I am not sure I follow you. What do you by 2 at a time?

    Two of “post categories”..

I would like to quite simply specify what category the form posts to when it creates a post..

    understood.

So the plugin can’t do that automatically for you.

This is a functionality that needs to be programmatically implemented using a hook.

Either after the post has been created or using a hook on the taxonomy itself.

    Understood

It would be lovely if it was listed along with the default post fields selection when mapping as it seems like the choice of category is a very common thing with posts.

Ok. I was more after being pointed in a direction such as what hook or where to begin. I’ve tried many on the list here.

not sure how that would work. You are attempting to do a conditional mapping. This plugin has no conditional logic built into it. You could try with the Conditional Fields for CF7 plugin.

You have to use the right one. You are trying to customise/change the post being saved after a form is submitted. If you read the description, only 1 hook fits that, #16.

I’m not sure if we are misunderstanding each other here. For example if you create a untouched form by default it posts to a category, I simply meant the choice of which category the form automatically posts to could be under default post fields selection, just like the post title, featured image or the other ones that are included there.

Oh, I actually did not try that, the “after” part made me dismiss it, but thank you I’ll give it a go. I have been fixated on 8 & 9, and I assumed I should load which category it will post to in advance.

so I understand where the confusion comes from. You are using the words category and categories to mean terms in the category taxonomy.

The default Posts in WP have a default taxonomy called Category (plural name Categories. However, each values are called terms.

We refer to terms of a taxonomy. In this case terms of Categories.

If you want to decide which terms a submitted post is assigned to, then you need to map your Categories to the Hook with a filter option and programmatically select the term.
