How to show search results with search terms having & (amp) symbol.

Hello everyone. I don’t know if this is a bug or something but I have not come across any WordPress site that has been able to show search results for terms having “&” in it. To be precise, let’s say a visitor searches dogs & cats. If you all tried doing this you’ll discover that search result returned will have only search results for dogs and anything from the & (amp) symbol won’t be returned as a search result. Is there a way to work out this issue. The only way I remember bypassing this back then when I was still doing self coded sites I was forced to deliver searched terms and the result from a SESSION which was automatically killed once the search result page loaded. I’m new to WordPress and I thought I would raise this issue as I haven’t seen solution for this given the many wordpress sites I’ve encountered.
