Support » Plugins » How to show NO subcategories

  • i need to see if anybody has any suggestions with an odd issue. i am using the Category Visibility plugin to show the latest posts on the leftsidebar, but allow me to decide which posts show as titles and excerpts on the index page. that works great.

but, i want to be able to place some articles into sub-categories that are not displayed on the index page and are not displayed thru that plugin in the sidebar. that same dev has the NoSubCats plugin, but when i create a category and then place an article in a subcategory of that first category, the headline/title shows in the sidebar of the index page.

i did place a request on the site that showed me the plugin, but it was a rather old post and doesn’t seem to have many users swarming it at the moment.

any ideas ? and thanks !

  • I don’t know about your plugin, but the easiest way to list categories that I know is to use wp_list_categories, and use “exclude” to not display anything you don’t want.

    Here is the documentation: http://codex.wordpress.org/Template_Tags/wp_list_categories

i am still reading thru that and digesting it; thank you for that. is it possible to have the post title using the wp_list_categories ?

that codex info was exactly what i needed, thanks again.

however, i didn’t see a way to place the individual title of the last post in that category; only the title of ‘category’ or ‘user_defined’.

is there a way to use that wp_list_categories and take advantage of the exclude function, but still have the added bonus of the ‘latest post’ function of that plugin?
