Support » Fixing WordPress » How to show clients the website while I work on it?

  • Here is a thing I wanted for a while now and I don’t now how to go about it:

    When I built a new WP site I usually put it in Maintenance Mode (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/maintenance-mode/) so I can work on it but it is not accesible by the public.

    Sometimes I do want to show the client the current state of progress – but I don’t want them to log into the backend. Oftentimes that just confuses the heck out of them.

    Is there a way to let them log in, see the frontend and not the backend? Doesn’t have to use the above mentioned plugin.

  • If you’re going to have them login still, then just update the re-direct so it sends anyone logging in to the main page instead of the dashboard.

    You can do it by editing the wp-login.php file, of course you’ll have to change it back afterwards (core file) but it’ll work…

    Line 425:
    $redirect_to = admin_url();

    Thanks, I’ll try that.
