How to set up /blog/ and /site2/ without a WP blog at root "/"

Hi there. This is probably quite specific but here goes:

What I want to set up is a static homepage at /, which links to two different blogs that are both run by WordPress. The big one is that I want one of them to be called /blog/. The other will be called something else but let’s say /site2/ for simplicity.

I’ve tried setting up a WP blog at / which I would just ignore (and later look into deleting the index.php) but it won’t let me create the /blog/ site because it’s a restricted word. I’ve also tried installing WP to /blog/ and then creating /site2/ but that doesn’t work either – it only allows /blog/site2/.

Is there any way I can achieve this? Thanks very much for your help.

Since you’re only creating two blogs, it might be better to just install two separate copies of WordPress at /blog/ and /site2/ per http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_Multiple_Blogs

The big one is that I want one of them to be called /blog/.

this URL is built in to the main blog in subfolder blogs by default. that’s why you can’t make a blog called blog – it’s kind of already there, but just part of the main blog.

What I usually do is plunk a theme on the main site with a custom home.php (there’s my “static” home page) and then make a page called /blog/ in the backend that uses a blog post template.
