• Hello,

Can someone please tell me how to seperate trackbacks from comments on my WordPress blog? I am using 2.7.1, and I would like a nice solution to the problem, is there any tutorials out there? What is the best way to do this?

I see some blogs that hide trackbacks altogether, why would they do that?

Also, what is the “trackback this page” I see on some blogs, why wouldn’t you just select the url and paste that in the trackbac section in the blog, rather than include the “/trackback/ url that they provide?

    Thanks a lot!

google is awesome for these sorts of things,

    because they can?

Because that box is for trackbacks. Trackbacks and pingbacks send diff data, and are handled differently. Theyre sent differently also.

    from the codex:

There are three significant differences between pingbacks and trackbacks, …

    1. Pingbacks and trackbacks use drastically different communication technologies (XML-RPC and HTTP POST, respectively).

    2. Pingbacks support auto-discovery where the software automatically finds out the links in a post, and automatically tries to pingback those URLs, while trackbacks must be done manually by entering the trackback URL that the trackback should be sent to.

    3. Pingbacks do not send any content.

I should have been clearer in explaining that pasting that url you mention minus the /trackback/ bits .. into a post AND having “try to send pingbacks” enabled means that you automagically attempt to send a pingback to the other site.

Thats what is meant by autodiscovery.

Its a pingback. 🙂 pingback urls go inside posts, or pages.

trackback urls go in the box.
