I have installed Multi site and have everything working as expected for 3 different websites. However for the two sites tht are using the same theme (Thesis) I have a problem. If I change the settinngs in one site eg from two columns to three, it also changes the other site!

How do I get aroudn this, do I have to put the wordpress and theme files in separate directories on the server?

  • It’s surprising that changing the settings in one site affects the other. If you’re using Appearance / Settings to make your changes, that would be unexpected. Or are you changing the theme itself?

If you’re changing the theme file then it will affect the other site, because the theme files are, by default, shared. They don’t have to be, though.

Once you’ve modified a theme, you can make it available to a limited number of sites. First, modify its title info in its style.css (so you can identify it), then upload it into its own folder in the themes directory. Don’t enable it site-wide, though, in SuperAdmin / Themes. Instead use SuperAdmin / Sites to edit the site, and check the box to allow it to use the modified theme.

I was making the change via the theme. So will follow your advice and report back..
