How to restore from a .tgz of the site, without an exported backup

    I have been given a group of websites in .tgz form to transfer to a new host. The main site is a WordPress one. I just installed WordPress on my new Dreamhost shared server. I can see options to import a correctly exported WXR site, but the old site was never exported as a WXR, I just got the entire contents of the old server in .tgz form.

    I’m also brand new to using WordPress.

    What is the best way of moving the old database files over to the new install so that the theme, contents, comments etc. work properly?
