How to remove the author name from the urls /author/authorname

    Hello,

I’ve noticed that some of the pages of my blog indexed by Google comport my user name in the url, like http://mysite.com/author/myauthorname/page/2

Is there a way to change this url, to delete these pages from my blog or to prevent Google from indexing them?

    Thanks.

If Google has found these pages, then you must be linking to them somewhere on your site. Try removing those links.

OK thanks and is it possible to tell WordPress not to create these pages at all? Basically those pages are all the posts I’ve posted displayed ten by ten (like what we usually have on the homepage), but I don’t really need that.

No – they are automatically generated on demand. But if you don’t publish links for them, people can’t access them.

“Automatically generated on demand” by WordPress or by my theme? On another blog of mine using the Twenty Eleven theme, if I try to access the url http://mysite.com/author/myauthorname/page/2 I get the Page not found error.

So is it just my theme that generates such pages?

I’m just asking because I have a lot of posts and it could be difficult to find the ones that are linking to these pages. I’d rather delete these urls right away even if I get broken links after that.

The pages will be generated by WordPress but the link may be generated by your theme. Do any of its template files use <?php the_author_posts_link(); ?>?

I’m going to check that and I’ll report back but I need a little bit of time.

    Thanks.
