  • Hi,

    noodp, noydir tags are supposed to prevent Google to use the description from Yahoo! Directory and the Open Directory Project/DMOZ Directory. Better leave them checked.

    Concerning “noindex” for the homepage, look for ‘Homepage Robots Meta Settings’ and uncheck it.

    The best you can do is click the “reset” button, and add your site name, and meta description again.

    But wait for an official reply, because i’m not an expert.

    Hope this helps

    Hy Geetar,

    thanks, but on my site is already unchecked this option.
    The problem is i cannot reset, because i have site for client on 9 languages with more then 70 links… so resetting, will delete all settings, not? Or just reset for homepage?

    I have the feeling, that not important if i check or uncheck the NOINDEX it always displays noindex… i tried to uncheck/check nofollow and for this is working fine, but for the most important noindex not…

    Maybe somebody else can help?!

    Thanks,
    Kany

    Hi Kany, George,

    Thanks for dropping by George :).

    Resetting will only remove the settings from the SEO settings from the page you’re on, so that would only be the global settings, I should rephrase that within the menu.

    Please check out the Robots Meta Settings on the SEO Settings Page, and see if the whole site is being indexed.
    The SEO Bar should also indicate of this when it’s happening (a blue “I” for NoIndex).

    If your Home Page is a blog, you should only be able to adjust the settings like George (Geetar) has told.

    Otherwise, if it’s a Static Page, you can adjust those settings as well, and please also check for the “Checked in Page” notification (in red) next to the Home Page robots settings.
    If that’s lit up, you can click it and you’ll be sent to the Home Page page-edit screen. From there you can adjust the robots settings.

    If this still fails to undo the NoIndex option, please inform me with your site’s URL so I can check out further parameters.

    I hope this helps! Let me know if you require further assistance and I hope you have a wonderful day!

    I do not see this option CHECKED IN PAGE option… Maybe you can explain again how to get to this…

    Thanks,

    Hi Kany,

    Unfortunately, I can’t offer back-end support, this is for my own legal protection.

    If the option “Checked in Page” isn’t available, then that should be alright.

    I have a small suspicion another plugin or theme is outputting or altering this data.
    Could you please give me the site address? Either through these forums or through the following contact page, please refer back to this ticket if so:

    Thanks and have a great day :).

    Hy Sybre,

    I sent 2 times request as help via your link on contact above, still no answer…

    Thanks for your understanding.

    Sybre,

    one more comment. What i realized is next, I installed this SEO plugin to one more site WP, that is just one languge, without the plugin Polylang (that i use for my multilingual site), and the homepage was showing noindex if i enable it in SEO –> Homepage Robots Meta Settings –> Apply noindex to the Home Page? and again dissapeared (noindex) when i unchecked it in SEO plugin.

    Is it possible that problem is related with Polylang plugin? Please help me, for my business it is not good if my client sites are being indexed, I am sure you can understand me!

    Thanks a lot,

    Hi Kany,

    Unfortunately I’ve been ill the past two days. Nevertheless, thank you for being patient :).

    I understand your concern, and I would like to ask you to do the following steps:

    1. Have you disabled all the Robots settings in the SEO Settings page?
    2. Is the home page editable through WordPress, and if so, are all robots settings disabled on it?

    If this fails, I believe the home page isn’t correctly assigned through Customizer and The SEO Framework detects the page as being an empty archive.

    Please be sure to assign the correct Front page right here:
    /wp-admin/options-reading.php

    They both should contain a value. The Front Page should lead to the page that’s currently disabled from indexing.

    I hope this helps! Let me know if it works out! 🙂

    P.S. I’ll look into the Polylang plugin ASAP.

    Hy,

    will answer just this:
    2. Is the home page editable through WordPress, and if so, are all robots settings disabled on it?

    >> no, this is a specific design just for homepage, on this homepages is one central picture + below 9 flags for changing languages (flags added via widget in WP). Is that the problem maybe??

    Please be sure to assign the correct Front page right here:
    /wp-admin/options-reading.php

    >> not sure i can follow you here? Is this a .php file wheere i have a list of pages or?

    Hi Kany,

    Thanks for the info! Did you make that page through Visual Composer, or through another plugin?

    You should go to that page within the WordPress admin of your website 🙂
    So that would be http://example.com/wp-admin/options-reading.php, there you can find the Front Page options.

    I hope this helps!

    I did it via Themler software for creating themes..

    hm, i visit this options-reading.php file, but there is option to choose front page some static, but in my special case, i dont want that 🙂

    The reason is, because the really front homepage has no content, just image + flags to navigate to languages…

    Any idea for my special case 🙂
    Please see here:
    http://www.petra-dario.com/en/ – this is NOINDEX showing
    http://www.petra-dario.com/en/apartments-selce/ – from here to other pages all is fine…

    Any idea pleaseeee? Thanks!

    Hi Kany,

    I understand that you wish to keep the settings. But I think that, as you’ve overwritten it with a custom Themler design, you can safely change it without altering the outcome.

    Although I know nothing about Themler, this is what WordPress interprets.. beware – WordPress slang:
    A home-page on the Front Page is a “front-page”, “home-page” and “archive”.
    And a front-page on the Front Page is a “front-page” and “page”.

    As you can see, your Front Page is being treated a Blog, Home Page and Archive. If The SEO Framework finds an empty archive, it will set it to noindex. Which is happening for you.

    Here are the reasons for this to happen, in a list:

    1. The front page is overwritten by the theme or plugin (the flag page).
    2. The front page is assigned as a Blog Page, but it shows a static page (weird and causes bugs).
    3. The front page is therefore an empty Archive, according to WordPress. Therefore NoIndex is added.

    So, this can be solved by changing the home page to a static page. This shouldn’t affect the outcome of the page as it’s overwritten by the theme or plugin with flags.

    Be sure to assign a blog page for it all to work as expected (so there’s an ID available for option “page-for-posts”).

    The SEO Framework plugin can’t “guess” what’s going on, it needs hard facts – which unfortunately can be wrongly changed or interpreted by themes and/or other plugins.

    However, at the end of the day, I believe a 0 post Blog home page shouldn’t be affected by Robots. So I’ll be sure to change that in the next version, but the next version is still being built.

    I hope this clears things up! Let me know if it all works out for you :).

    Hi Kany,

    As this might be a high-priority subject, I suggest to do at least the following to remove the noindex output (and all other The SEO Framework output) on the front page, by adding the following code to your (child-)theme’s functions.php file until we figure out what causes this issue:

    add_action( 'get_header', 'my_remove_the_seo_framework_output', 11 );
    /**
     * Call this function very early, before init.
     */
    function my_remove_the_seo_framework_output() {

    	if ( is_front_page() && function_exists( 'the_seo_framework' ) ) {
    		$the_seo_framework = the_seo_framework();

    		if ( isset( $the_seo_framework ) ) {
    			remove_action( 'wp_head', array( $the_seo_framework, 'html_output' ), 1 );
    			remove_action( 'genesis_meta', array( $the_seo_framework, 'html_output' ), 5 );
    		}

    	}

    }

    If you require information on where to place custom actions and/or filters, please refer to this guide. Do keep a backup of your files as you edit them.

    I hope this helps! Keep me posted on the progression and let me know if you require any more assistance :).
