Support » Fixing WordPress » how to redirect from old wp blog to new wp blog at a different address

  • Resolved rmarshsj

    I am moving my wp blog from to rmarsh/com. I can handle the actual transfer etc but am wondering whether there is a plugin or hack that will redirect (301) all requests from the old blog to the equivalent post in the new. I intend to keep the old blog running for a month or so and would like Google (etc) to be able to make the transition smoothly.

    Thank you for your help.

    Angsumans plugin redirects posts and pages 301

    It worked well for me.

    It did not redirect /categories/ matbe because of me or the plugin?

    Also I could not use .htaccess to do this because I did not have access.

    So I ended up using the plugin for a month or so (Google redirected everyting in a matter of days) and then I used a php redirect like for the rest of the site.

    // Permanent redirection
    header("HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently");

    Also see this thread for the Otto42 solution using htaccess.

    Maybe there is a better way but that worked for me.

    Thanks febwa1976 I’ll give those a look. Rob

    I’ve looked at Angsumans’ plugin and cooked up my own version which doesn’t require giving custom fields to the posts you need to redirect. It should redirect anything apart from the admin pages. I can’t properly test it yet until my domain transfer goes through, but if it works I’ll make it available.

    Thanks for your help.

    rmarshsj, Please let me know if your new version works. I was just about to install Angsuman’s plugin and go through the laborous process of adding the custom redirect field to ALL my posts. But if you have a way around that, I’d love to use your version instead.

    If it works, please email it to me or let me know.
