How to prevent hotlinking without destroying my website?

  • Hi. The last time I enabled prevent hotlinking feature in my cpanel, I got 404 errors every second.

How can I make sure this doesn’t happen? My sites were in the exempt list.

My host told me after re-enabling the feature, I have to recreate the .htaccess by deleting it and making a new one, and setting permissions to 640.

But I don’t trust them because they don’t use WordPress as much as you guys. What is your advice on this?
