    How would I display the number of comments, with out using
    <?php comments_popup_link( 'No comments yet', '1 comment', '% comments so far', 'comments-link', 'Comments are off for this post'); ?>

    I would like to display the number of comments without it being a link to the single post, or comment pop.

    I couldn’t find anything in the codex explaining comment template
