You can do this by clicking Mass Edit next to the View Mode link on your Comments and Moderation Screens. Or you can get Paged Comment Editing Plugin from Coldforged that makes dealing with all of this, including seeing your exiled spam and deleting it from your database.
Now, if you really had 6000 and not the 600 that we all fee like we have when we walk away for a little while, and you are still using WordPress version 1.2 – UPGRADE IMMEDIATELY. I can’t stress that enough. It really does an awesome job on blocking spammers. Few get through for me and I was hit by hundred every day with 1.2.
If you really have that many, I know there is a way to delete them full bore from the database but I’m not sure exactly how. Some one else will have to offer that specific tip.
Hi Lorelle,
Actually, it was 6000+ messages 🙂 – Thanks, I did follow your sugestion, and got to clear the crap out of my d/base. It might interest you to know that because of the enormous quantity of the comments/spam, I could nver get the bottom of the list to do a ‘mark all as spam’ – I had to delete by doing key word searches, until I got it down to about 3000 .. thanks much 🙂
ps : I discvered the problem while upgrading to 1.5.1 🙂
