WordFence is quite a heavy add-on. It delays the opening of the site by about 2 seconds. Could it be somehow lightened?

Hello @neptun and thanks for reaching out to us!

It should delay your site by that long. Can you send a diagnostic report to wftest @ wordfence . com? You can find the link to do so at the top of the Wordfence Tools > Diagnostics page. Then click on “Send Report by Email”. Please add your forum username where indicated and respond here after you have sent it.

    Thanks!

    Hello WFAdam

I sent diagnostic information. Here is also a picture of the P3 Plugin Performance Profiler report on site add-ons.

    Thanks for sending that @neptun

The link you provided doesn’t seem to be working.

The first thing I noticed in your diagnostic was that your Firewall is not optimized, which shouldn’t cause any performance issues but we want to make sure the firewall is able to do its job.

It looks like your Server API is Litespeed. You could go to your Wordfence > Firewall page and click on Optimize the Firewall. This will walk you through the set up Wizard. Make sure it selects LiteSpeed as the API.

Let me know if this helps and if you have questions!

    Thanks!

OK, I will do it very soon. Wonder that the link has no function. To me it was OK. Here an other possibility to that linked photo:

Hope you get it from there.

Another thing to look at would be, is your site getting hit by a lot of traffic that is being blocked? Check your Wordfence > Tools > Live Traffic to see if this is happening.

Let me know how the optimization goes!

    Thanks!

    Hello WF Adam!

I was in the Firewall optimize section. It looked like LiteSpeed was already set up there. I couldn’t do anything.

I have not placed any specific blocks in Wordfence. In the Stop Spammers plugin there are some of them. Wordfence only works according to its own settings and blocks. Could you clarify what I should research or do.

Did you get the image I send?

    Hello again @neptun

I did get your image this time! Thank you!

For optimizing LiteSpeed, use FTP or your file manager:
This goes in .htaccess file but you will need to adjust the path to the wordfence-waf.php file.

    # Wordfence WAF
    <IfModule LiteSpeed>
        php_value auto_prepend_file 'path/to/wordfence-waf.php'
    </IfModule>
    # END Wordfence WAF

Let me know if this helps!

    Thanks!

I would also recommend a caching plugin + Cloudflare to boost things even more.

Hi, I’m not very good at these coding things. That is why I am asking for detailed clarification. Adding that code and where in the wordfence-waf.php file?

Likewise, I ask Bryan to tell more about which add-on to download and what I will then do. I am sorry that these types of things are a little less familiar to me. Thanks if you can help me.

@neptun Make sure to add that code the htaccess file. You can also ask your host to add it for you if you are uncomfortable editing those files.

    Hi,

Yes I can update these via FTP if there are instructions. The webhost is not interesed about these little things. Now it just so happens that there doesn’t seem to be an htaccess file. There is an x.htaccess in the root. So where put the code?
    waf-file there is.

It’s very likely that something like that will be beyond the scope of what your host can help you with.

If you’re not comfortable getting under the hood, I would skip trying to edit files via FTP and you should skip the Cloudflare recommendation as well.

    What I’d recommend is:

    1. Install this plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-htaccess-editor/), and that way you can simply copy/paste the code from above into your .htaccess file.

    2. For a much more significant boost in site performance, I highly recommend https://wp-rocket.me/. It’s also a WordPress plugin (though not free) so it’ll be easy to install like any other plugin.

It’s extremely effective and while it can be optimized further, it’s very much built with set and forget in mind, no fiddling or tech-savvy required.

    Good luck!

Thanks for the instructions. I am going to install the add-on in item 1 of the list. So adding code requires that add-on. The site is not productive, only hobby based. So paid add-ons are not used for now.

Note that the speed of the site is otherwise satisfactory. It was only question of the amount of time required by the Wordfence add-on – almost 2 seconds – that maybe could be reduced by some measures.

    INCREASE:

Maybe the download time for Wordfence varies. Measured now, it was better: 1.03 seconds.

That’s great! Just let us know if you need anything else!

    Thanks again!

I tried to do the code installation so it turned out that it is of no help. It is already in a hidden htaccess file. However, it will not work without the LiteSpeed server (IfModule LiteSpeed). The server I’m using doesn’t have it.

This means is therefore no use. The Wordfence Current blocks page has 7 blocks I sometimes set. Should they be removed? Is there anything else I can do?
