How to make WordPress support multiple users?

  • Hello
I am going to be creating a blog portal – letting people publish blogs on my portal/community site. I plan on giving people access to the address: http://blogs.crossmap.com/username.
I am trying to find software that will let me administer multiple sites, allowing me to make/remove accounts for example. From the user’s interface, they should have access to design/template/publishing tools but no admin tools. Is this possible with WordPress? I am otherwise impressed with the software, but can it be used for multiple users?

  • You’re really asking if WP is multiBLOG and not multiUSER. WP supports more than 1 user, but not more than 1 site.

not more than 1 blog actually.
    its underworks though…

Does anyone have any code which could be implemanted to do something along these lines? I am currently working on something rudimentry to this respect (hopfully through a plugin) but I wonder if anyone has done something like this before?
My WP plugin skills are completely minimal as I am still reading the API information but I have done modules and such things for other open source portals before (php-nuke post-nuke ect) and hope to have something simple worked out soon. My members grow anxious. 🙂
