Support » Plugin: Advanced Custom Fields: Font Awesome Field » How to make this plugin work when ACF Pro Internalized

  • Hi,
I have a theme where I’m using ACF Pro as part of the theme, not as an external plugin. Your plugin is very helpful for my theme but it doesn’t work as a plugin since ACF Pro is internal to my theme.

I was wondering how to make them work together in this situation. Any suggestion will be highly appreciated. Thanx in advance.

BTW: I followed all the directions on ACF Pro site to internalize it. And it’s working flawlessly.

This sounds like a similar question to the one asked here:

Personally I feel that bypassing the normal WordPress plugin system is going to lead to some stale/un-updated plugins.

I agree with you on the update issue. But I maintain a managed environment where I manage all the updates for my clients myself on my VPS. So when an update arrives, I do that manually.

But that link above doesn’t answer my question. I internalized ACF main plugin successfully. My question to you was how to make it work with your fontawesome plugin … is there a way?

Currently there are no filters available in this plugin to allow it to be installed outside of the plugins directory. It is something I can look into for a future release.

However in the meantime there is nothing stopping you from manually changing these paths to fit your installation directory. Since the code is going to live outside of the plugins directory, there is no chance of it getting updated without you doing it yourself, at which point you would want to carry-forward any modifications you’ve made to the paths.
