Hey there,
It’s very odd to hear that PayPal IPN has delays – I haven’t seen this happen personally. If you prefer to use PDT, though, that’s fine. You’ll want to make sure that you use PDT or IPN, but not both at the same time.
Here’s how to set that up using PayPal Standard:
https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/paypal-standard/#section-29
If you’re using a different PayPal plugin, the option will likely be different. In that case, can you please share your system status log?
Hi Hannah,
Normally IPN sends notification immediately, but there has been a few occasions where IPN notifications are delayed, with the highest delay up to 6 hours.
I am using PayPal Standard, and yes I have followed the setup guide, it is certain that I can do PayPal refund from WooCommerce admin page. But I never see any sign that PDT is used. As I mentioned, no matter what I do, orders are still updated by IPN notifications. It is very frustrating.

Hi there,
You can remove the IPN URL entirely from the site. However the message you’re seeing doesn’t mean PDT is not being used. The message in the order notes is the same regardless.
Hi Kenin,
Thanks for replying. That sounds confusing though, will there be a way to tell exactly if PDT or IPN in the future?

Hi there,
The order notes won’t change to show PDT, however you can remove the IPN address to be certain.
