I have written a six post part series on how to get the new features in WordPress 3 into the old Artisteer themes, by creating and using a child theme.
The child theme method works well and preserves the original theme, parts of the series may work for other non Artisteer themes, once you understand how they work it is not that hard with the new functions.
I did use a lot of the code from the Twenty Ten theme, with changes for use with child themes, there is a sample base theme to work with and each part has a progressive download.
Covered so far:
1. Creating the Child Theme
2. Horizontal Nav Menu
3. Page Background
4. Page and Post Headers (2010)
5. Page Header Defaults (2010)
6. Second Single Level Nav Horizontal Menu
I still have the Artisteer Vertical Menu to do yet, that should be later this week, and after to create a child theme template to make it all come together.
I am a coder in a different software language and no php expert, so any feedback to my email through my website, on how I can streamline parts of code would be most welcomed.
The six part tutorial can be found on my website Digital Raindrops
I hope this may help some beginner and intermediate theme developer.
