• I have just started with WordPress. I am not an expert HTML coder or anything. I would like to know if there is a way either to prevent certain of my posts from appearing in the home page of my blog site (that is, at the first point of entry) so that they can appear only in one of my categories, or to keep my “Welcome” post always at the top regardless of the time stamp of my other posts. Any advice on this would be much appreciated.

  • to keep tje welcome post on there, do a search for a plugin called adhesive.. it makes it sticky.. there should be another one that “slips” it off the font page.. though I could neer get it to work..

    .. just my 2 cents

    1. For a welcome message I used this plugin in a blog I’ve set up recently. (I made a Page with the welcome-text and called that Page at the top of the index.php template.
    2. Excluding categories from the main page can be done in many ways. Search the forum.

I could get the adhesive plugin to work with 1.5.2 . It does not show the sticky selection checkbox.

That is I could not get…

    Thank you all.

I use the plugin called “Static Page eXtended” and it works great. I just made a copy of my themes index.php and called it home.php and made the changes that I wanted. Whenever anyone visits the root of your site this is the page that is displayed. So you can still show posts on it as well, you would just create any static things that you want and they will only be shown on this page. This plugin also allows the use of PHP in posts and outside of the loop.
