How to keep the background centered css

I know this isn’t exactly a WordPress issue, but I need it for my WordPress blog.

The main area is 980px, the background image is 2000px.
As the browsers gets smaller the moves to the right, I need it to stay centered and the left side needs to vanish.

    Any ideas?

the CSS rule you need to add is
