How to Install WP into subdirectory, then later move Index.php to the root?

  • Hello,

I have a live XSitepro site that I’m upgrading to WordPress. I want to install wordpress into a subdirectory of the site so it doesn’t interfere with the XSitepro installation.

When I’ve finished development I would like to move wordpress index.php to the root (after deleting the XSitepro site).

What other configuration needs to happen to make this work?

I tried doing it following Codex:Giving WordPress Its Own Directory, and Codex:Changing the Site URL. I wasn’t able to make it happen.

What I did was install WordPress into /wp, created a /wpindex where I copied index.php (for test purposes since I can’t put it in the root of my live site) with the mods to wp-blog-header.php path pointing at now to /wp. In admin I changed the blog url to /wpindex. When I ran /wpindex/index.php all I got was a blank white screen.

I was just trying to prove that I could run index.php from another location so it proves it could happen from the root.

    Any help much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Glenn
