I have a VPS account with a web hosting provider that runs on centOS 4.3 I believe. I know I have root access to a shell prompt, and access to yum, that much I know

but what I do not understand, how do I install subversion using yum?

Just to upgrade my blog. do I do

    "yum install subversion"
    "yum install subversion mod_dav_svn"

I don't understand. I found this article after doing a google search on the subject, but isn't that for the server? I just want the client, right? how do I do that?

I'm not entirely sure, but I believe they have me on the Apache 1.3 trunk in centOS 4.3 if I remember right. I know I recently had them upgrade me to PHP 5, because of some wordpress plugin issues I was having that required PHP 5, but thats all I know, hehe.

  3. "yum install subversion" should be correct. You don't need mod_dav_svn, that's the apache module for subversion (which is basically the server, subversion runs through http).

After you run yum, try "svn --version" to make sure it's installed. Then you can use the svn client to connect to any other svn server you like.

You don't need to configure anything else as described in that article, all that is for running your own svn repository. Just "yum install subversion" should do the trick for getting the client.

thanks man, thats all I needed to know :)

I have always upgraded WordPress, up until now, using Cpanel's Fantastico, but when I read that article about what subversion was, I thought, "cool I'll do that instead" since Fantastico doesn't have 2.3 in their repository yet I'll just do it that way from now on :)
