Support » Plugin: WooCommerce » How to import images for categories?

  • I just started using woocommerce less than 2 weeks ago and just upgraded to the latest versions of everything. I love the newly included CSV importer for woocommerce products! Unfortunately I’m having trouble figuring out how to import images for categories.

Also, the same issue for table rate shipping. Well, maybe not quite the same but I can’t figure out how to import shipping rates.

Finally I’m not sure how to import product dimensions.

    Thank you!

You can import Weight, Height, Length, Width columns.

You cannot however import product category images. Only product data is handled. Not category data.

Thanks fo0r your response. 3 followup questions for you.

Any intentions to add said feature, preferably in the immediate future?
Any knowledge of a different (free) plugin that performs said activity?
Finally, would you be so kind as to provide the sql statements that would enable me to insert category data (especially images) from the command line, it would be greatly appreciated. (Select blah from foo where foobar = ‘etc.’).

    Thank you

Not that I’m aware of, though new features will be added to it in the future. How often do you really need to change category images though, and how many categories do you have? This isn’t something that most stores really need right now. We kept the importer basic with the core product options.

There are a lot of CSV import/export plugins for WordPress and WooCommerce. I’ve only ever tried the premium options though, so I’m afraid I can’t help much there.

I believe this is what you are looking for: http://wp-cli.org/. WooCommerce has added some CLI commands as well: https://github.com/woocommerce/woocommerce/wiki/WC-CLI-Commands

While I’m building the store, testing various plugins and whatnot… I need to reload everything clean every now & then. Retyping the entire database of category images isn’t my idea of a good time whether it be once or many times. Frankly I would prefer not to have to enter it all even once – I did a couple, got annoyed and stopped to look for an alternative solution and so here we are.

Having to type in more than 3 starts to get to be a pain in the butt. More than 5 and it is a pain in the butt. I have more than a dozen at the moment and at some point I expect I’ll have even more. Coupled with the intent to eventually add more stores down the road… yeah.

This isn’t something that most stores really need right now.
Is that based on a survey of all plugin users? Or is it based on the fact that “nobody asked for it”?

YMMV but my experience is that most people don’t know what they want (or need) until they see it. They simply accept what’s given to them and learn how to work with it as best they can. I’m a little different – I believe that software should conform to the user, not the other way around. Plus, most people won’t bother to interact with the developers for any reason.

That is truly some fantastic information! I thank you for it, much appreciated! However, no it’s not what I’m looking for – unless I missed something (and it’s definitely possible) there was nothing in there about managing categories or their associated images. I looked through the cli command set but again… nothing related to categories that I noticed.

I was actually looking for the set of mysql statements necessary to manipulate the DB properly in regard to category images, from within the mysql shell. For example: “INSERT category_img INTO tablename;”

    Thank you
