Support » Fixing WordPress » How to handle posts in different ways ? (newbie)

  • I’m new to WordPress, trying to move using it, and after reading boards, FAQ, ‘index.php’ and so on I still can’t understand how the template is used/generated and can be altered to suit my needs 🙁 .
    The first thing I need to do is to handle two (maybe more sometime in the future) kind of post in different way. When in the frontend I go to a category webpage, I would like to have all the first kind to be displayed, and only the ‘n’ last posts of the other kind (with a link or a calendar to get the others).
    If possible without butchering the native WP code, so I could upgrade along with core WP without too much troubles :-/

  • Too quick with the post message.
    So, I guess I shall use the ‘custom fields’ so ‘index.php’ (or whatever handling that) know how to handle this, but where I start ? I’m lost 🙁

    if( get_post_custom_values("specialPost") ) {
    //handle your biz
    } else {
    // normal freaking post - w/e
