    Hi:

I’m trying to set up a new membership. I have the UM theme installed. It all seems to be working fine. What a terrific plugin! There are two things I haven’t been able to figure out:

    1) how to get the “update profile” button to show for logged in members to update their profile. I see a gear where they can update account info, but not profile. I have the fields that they are allowed to edit checked off as “user can edit” in the field set up screen.

I thought a button with this link would send them to edit profile, but it shows the profile in view mode with no edit button:

    https://www.tagteachblog.com/user/?profiletab=main&um_action=edit

    2) How to activate search capability for the public. Previously the search bar was showing for not logged in visitors, but now it’s gone and I don’t know what I did. Also the search returned no results even with the search bar blank for logged in users. Currently the status of search is:

Logged in as admin – search bar shows and search works
Logged in as member – search bar shows, but returns no results
Public (not logged in) – no search bar

Thanks for any help with this!

    Joan

I also tried leaving all the checkboxes blank for roles that can search. So now the public search works, but a logged in user doesn’t get any results.

My members are logged in through Optimize Member since that is what I have been using to manage my courses and control access and generate course menus. I added Ultimate member because I want to have a public membership directory with the level of control that Ultimate member offers. Perhaps this is why the update profile button isn’t showing for logged in members.

    Hi @tagteachjoan

    1. You can change it in the Role settings to allow users to edit their profile. Please go to WP Admin > Ultimate Member > User Roles > Edit a role > see “General Permissions” > check Can edit their profile?.

    2. Please go to the member directory settings and add the filter fields. You can set the search form accessible to everyone in the Search Options > User Roles that can use filters > uncheck all roles.

Thanks so much for your help, Champ!

I’m just getting back to this now. The ability to edit profile is now working thanks to your suggestion.

My other issue is partially solved and the search bar shows for the public and all records show for not logged in users and when logged is as admin. If I log in as other users, and go to the directory: https://tagteachblog.com/member-directory, the Member Directory page appears, but there are no records shown and a message says “We are sorry. We cannot find any users who match your search criteria”

    Thanks for your help!

    Joan
