How to get three post columns on the home page (2 posts)

Hi, I'm reasonably new to WordPress so go easy on me. I'm looking to have three columns of the most recent posts on the home page as opposed to the default which is one.

I know that on the presentation page there are the three columns but I think these are static and would need manually updating. What I'd like is to have my last three posts in a row at the top of the page.

Here's a visual example of what I'm getting at: http://i.imgur.com/BMsIqRb.png

Hoping someone can help me out with this

You may want to try Zenon Lite which does that. Here's an example (though I have 4 static boxes - I think they can be removed - the 3 blog boxes are underneath those): http://washington-dc-area-historic-house-sale.com/
