How to get started with my own ideas?

  • I successfully installed wordpress and now I am looking for a guide or tutorial of how to start. I selected a theme, but how to modify it? Or how to create my own theme? ’til now I was doing homepages with Adobe GoLive – that is my level of knowledge. I hardly know anything about blogs. So where is information? Who can help? Maybe my questions are too basic here…

  • Try this site: http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Themes
If you’re using WP 1.5, you modify themes (edit them) by going to Presentation, and then Theme Editor.

Another thing that can help–install WP a second time in a temp directory so you can play with the themes and see how they look without ruining your actual blog. I did this so I wouldn’t have to bother installing php and such on my laptop. It’s a simple thing, but sometimes just changing stuff here and there is the best way to learn.

Then possibly try the Classic as an upgrade platform – it is easy to follow – and maybe fit the Gemini theme. Then you can just style it.

    Hey, thanks a lot, everyone!
