Support » Plugin: Yoast SEO » How to get smaller Twitter card for homepage only and large photos for all posts

The link I’ve included is not actually mine! It is an example. When you share the homepage for this website on Twitter it shows “Summary” card (small logo to the left, and the website title to the right.)

However, anytime you share a blog post from this website, then you get the large summary card with a big photo.

I have gone to my WP-admin > SEO > Social > Twitter. It’s set to “Summary.” The homepage works great! I see my homepage show up on Twitter with “Summary” view, but then ALL my posts that are shared on Twitter are in the “Summary” view.

Is there a way I can have “Summary” only show for the homepage, and then “Summary with Large Image” for all blog posts?

I tried uploading large photos in a blog post under the “Social” tab, but the URL still gets posted to Twitter as “Summary” and the photo is cropped and looks bad.

I tried reversing my setup. So I tried to set twitter to “Summary with Large Photo.” I then went to my homepage and tried to upload a 200×200 photo, but when I share the homepage on Twitter it still tries to do “Summary with Large Photo” and the picture looks awful.

We are afraid to say that Yoast SEO has no such option to define the Twitter card type for specific pages rather than globally for the entire site. However, we have a filter available wpseo_twitter_card_type that you can use to change the Twitter card type programmatically. You can find more information about this here: https://developer.yoast.com/customization/apis/metadata-api/#twitter-presenters

    We hope this helps!

    This did not help.

What did help is I downloaded a plugin called “JM Twitter Cards” that let’s me choose if I want “Summary” or “Summary with Large Image” on each blog post for Twitter.

I turned off Twitter in the Yoast > Social settings. Therefore, I am effectively only using “Yoast” for Facebook and “JM Twitter Cards” for Twitter.

I thought about signing up for Yoast Premium to get the live social media viewing option… but this doesn’t make sense now since I am only using Facebook with Yoast. It would be really helpful if Yoast allowed you to pick “Summary” or “Summary with Large Image” for each individual post going forward.

Thanks for responding. I appreciate it.

(Hopefully Google will pick up this post for others that may need help with this in the future.)

Thanks for sharing your experience on how you have resolved it by yourself. If you think that having an option to set Twitter card styles for specific pages would be helpful for everyone, please do feel free to submit a feature request directly on our GitHub development repository so that our development team can consider this in a future update!

Have an excellent rest of your week!
