How to get rid of unwanted "author" URL?

    I recently installed the Google XML Sitemaps plugin and used it to submit my sitemap to Google.

    Now the Google search results include an “author” URL with this format:

    http://<base site URL>/news/author/<author ID>

    This search result is redundant and I don’t want it to appear in Google because the author ID is the same as my WordPress login username.

    Can you tell me how to stop this from appearing in Google?
