    What .php file should I edit? Or may be there is a plug-in available?

    I’ve simply made my archives a drop-down option list. You can add this code to your sidebar:
    <form name="archiveform" action="">
    <select name="archive_chrono" onchange="window.location = (document.forms.archiveform.archive_chrono[document.forms.archiveform.archive_chrono.selectedIndex].value);">
    <option value=''>Select Month</option><?php get_archives('monthly','','option','','',false); ?>
    </select>
    </form>

    Also, you can use the parameters of the wp_get_archives() function as described in the Codex:
