Support » Fixing WordPress » How to get link to call custom (shared) template

  • I know how to build custom category pages, but what I want is to pass what FILE (crew-template.php) to use, along with a value pulled using the c2c custom field plugin (I’m able to get that part of it already…)

    something like: my -blog/">blog

but what happens is that I get the right posts, but they are displayed in the archives.php file. How can I add something in there that says to use a specific file instead of archive.php?

I’ve also tried writing it like: my -blog/">blog

which doesn’t work at all (it doesn’t find the posts or the file.)

Suggestions anyone? Why does wordpress understand author.php?author=x or index.php?cat=x but not crew-template.php?var=

  • nevermind, it may not be elegant, but I’ve found a way to do it. I haven’t been using the generic category.php file for anything on this site, so I’m tapping into that to create my crew blog template… since it won’t find a category specific template (category-x.php) for each crew member’s blog, it works… and lets me create a custom layout for those blogs…

I wish I were better at php and wordpress to figure out how to set up the if/else conditional logic to allow me to do it that way, but I’m not and this works…

    thank goodness.

so I can use the first method and it uses the right layout.
