Support » Fixing WordPress » How to Fix The Speed of my Website – (Tried Everything)

  • Hi,

I have a removals website crated on a premium wordpress theme but the site is extremely slow. I tried everything to make it faster but without much success.

I have installed Autooptimize, WP Fastest Cache, WP-Optimize, Yoast SEO, W3 Total Cache and many more free and premium plugins but my website pages are still loading for over 2 – 3 seconds. I even hired a freelancer to optimize the theme itself but again – without luck. Then I have migrated the hosting to another hosting provider because was advised that the hosting is not good enough. After so many tries and fails I’m desperate now and don’t know what to do. So if you can help me I will be very grateful.

Have you narrowed down where the issue lies, is it the theme?

    Hi Andrew,

I have no idea because I’m not a coder. I have hired a freelancer to optimize the theme according to Google speed suggestions – e.g. moved javascript at the bottom, minify the css… the Page Score has improved a bit but pages still loads very slow.

I would recommend using the Health Check plugin to deactivate all of your plugins without affecting the live site: https://wordpress.org/plugins/health-check/

Does the issue persist? If so, try switching to the Twenty Seventeen theme. If the issue then persists then it’s a server optimisation problem.

I can’t do that, because the website is using custom post type pages( which are part from the theme). If I switch to other theme – all pages become 404 not found. I’m pretty much stuck with this theme 🙁

That’s just to narrow down the problem. See the “troubleshooting” mode of the Health Check plugin: https://make.wordpress.org/support/handbook/appendix/troubleshooting-using-the-health-check/#troubleshooting

Hi, First of all, you need to check the hosting and see how they give you resources and what is your current plan. ( You can check hosting recommended by WordPress –> https://wordpress.org/hosting/ )

Then in my opinion use one cache plugin like WP Rocket or WP Fastest cache.

there are lots . of tutorials for these plugins.

    Also, use light weighted plugins.

At the end, I think it’s hosting you should really think about.

    Hi Haamed,

I have tried all caching plugins, and WP Fastest cache is the one I’m using now along with Autoptimize.

    Hi Andrew,

I have just installed the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin and when on troubleshooting mode – the entire site waste broken on the frontend – there was no theme, or even pages (only basic WP theme with 1 page) so have no idea how to check what is slowing down the site this way.

If you run that through Google’s page insights tool, the results are that you scored pretty good on Desktop. Actually 96%.

Your website load speed is good, it’s 3.7 in total.
Have you tried to optimize your images via https://wordpress.org/plugins/optimus/ . and WP smush?

By the way, you have a lot plugins installed on your website, Rev Slider, Layer slider, wp bakery page builder and ….

and they are not light weighted. they slow down your website 😉

    Hi Andrew,

The Google Speed is good only on desktop and only homepage. If you check some internal pages you will see that even on desktop the score is low. Also regardless of Speed Score the pages loads for 2 – 3 seconds which is very very slow. I want them to load for under a second.

    Hi Haamed,

I have tried WP Smush but this plugin have destroyed my images for some reason and I had to reupload every image again (I don’t recommend this plugin to anyone).
About WP Bakery and Slider Plugins – is there a way to make them load faster?

You can improve your website speed. In my experience WP Rocket is the fastest and the best plugin for caching and speed, but It’s not free. It’s premium.

    Take a look : https://wp-rocket.me/

Can you link us to the page with the problem? We have limited time to spend and it’s best to understand the root cause of the issue.
