Support » Plugin: MailPoet - emails and newsletters in WordPress » How to fix the character encoding in preview and mail?

  • Resolved Chris

    I am testing your plugin (version 3.21.1) on WP 5.1.1 with PHP 7.2.15 and I use some non-ASCII characters in the headings of the mail. Both in the template designer preview (Firefox) and the test emails (Thunderbird and Apple Mail), these characters are not displayed correctly:

    The HTML is
    Hier sind die neusten Blog-Beiträge. Viel Spaß beim Lesen!
    The output shows
    Hier sind die neusten Blog-Beitrge. Viel Spa beim Lesen! (With question marks in boxes – I hope it displays like that.)
    Looks like the character encoding for the HTML is not UTF-8, but the HTML part in the email source shows correctly:
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" />

    The site language is US-English and otherwise all characters display fine on front end and back end.

    Even when I change the fonts of that text to Open Sans, Roboto or Arial, I don’t see an improvement.

    When I manually switch in Thunderbird the text encoding from Unicode to Western, these characters are displayed correctly in the <h3> parts, but not anymore in the <p> parts.

    Did I miss any setting or is there anything you can recommend? Thanks!
