[Resolved] How to edit HTML

  • I need to insert a few lines of code to the top-level HTML for my new WP blog, for Google Analytics. How do I insert code into the HTML? I can’t find a link to open the source files.

I’m using WP 2.7.1, pls don’t tell me to go to the “Manage” menu, there is no such thing 🙂

It might help if you explained where, on the displayed page, this new markup needs to go or what the code you’re inserting is for.

-A plugin for doing just that, if you are so inclined. This may be helpful

-A tutorial for Google Analytics and WordPress

I recommend you edit via ftp or locally. If you must edit files from within WordPress, there is good information located here. Might want to be sure and read the “Things You Need To Know” section.

Clayton, the plug-in did the trick, thanks.

For future reference, how would I edit via FTP? I mean, where do I get the file to edit? Is that what Export is for?

Unfortunately, the Codex is badly out of date. It repeatedly refers to Manage and Options menus that do not exist in 2.7.1, and so I have no idea what I can and cannot trust in it.

I know how to use FTP. What I’m asking is, where would I get the file to edit? I just came from Blogger, which has a very simple option to open up an editing window with the HTML for the entire site. On WP, I find links to Editors for the Theme files and the plug-ins, but nothing for the overall site.

The plugin you gave me worked just fine, but surely it should be possible to copy and paste a few lines of code into the HTML?

Those are the only things you need to edit… The theme *is* your site.

    OK thanks 🙂
