  • On my dutch website (http://www.aarschot.info) I want to describe the history of all the houses in the centre of our city (construction history, owners, …).
To achieve that I’m creating a separate page for every addres. So eventually there will be hundreds of pages and, as you can already see in the left sidebar a pages menu in time will become too complicated (too long).

Is there a way (via plugins?) to accomplish a clean, clear and orderly menu where people can search for the right address?
Are there maybe other ways you might think of to create an overview of all the pages (sorted by street name)?

  • I think you should be creating a post for each house. That way you can divide the houses into categories and display the category links in the sidebar. You can also apply tags like ‘luxury’ or ‘high-end’ to houses and then display a tag cloud in the sidebar. Also, doing this is really easy. All you need is a plugin to convert your existing pages to posts.

If I create a post for each house, how do I prevent that post from appearing on my homepage between the other posts (that are just announcements or updates)?

I have several “normal” pages (contact, …) that should stay pages after conversion of the pages about houses. Can that be done with a plugin?

I see the dilemma. What about a custom post type? It will require some extra work but it will be perfect for this usecase. I’m sure you can find a plugin for dealing with custom post types.
