  • Can you not download it via the control panel within the WordPress Admin from the wordpress site? Guess not.

    Otherwise, download the *.zip file to your hard drive, then, from the wordpress admin section in your own wordpress site, select, Themes, “Search for Themes” at the top, then select “From my computer”.

    Browse to the *.zip file you downloaded, Click, OK
    Then once you’ve been told it’s installed, hit.

    ACTIVATE.

    Done

    Thanks for the responses. My “themes” panel in WP Admin has 3 options–Current Themes (wordpress 1.6 default), Available Themes (only one = wordpress classic 1.5); Get More Themes (only link is to wordpress theme directory, which goes back to the listing of themes where I could only download to my hd from wordpress) I don’t see any link for Search for Themes or option to upload to my blog from my computer. I set this up via earthlink’s wordpress option (so is a database on my website) and am wondering if somehow their admin options are a lot more limited. I don’t seem to be able to find any of the links, buttons all the help info refers to. And my admin page/dashboard is very simple and doesn’t look like the example in the online info.
    Thanks for any help!

    What version of WordPress are you using?

    I think it’s 2.0.4. Tried to upgrade to the 3.1 but again ran into the problem of everything offers option only to download to hd and not to the hosted blog.

    You will have to update manually. WordPress 2.0.4 didn’t yet have the automatic update functionality.

    Thanks Chip, I will give this a try. I’m not a techie so I’ll prob be back for more help!

    I too have the same problem and am too not very technically minded. I’ve downloaded the new update but do not know how to get into my FTP or shell access to upload.

    The website was designed by an outside company and simply passed on the log in details of the wp-admin site so I could edit and upload new info onto the site. Is there some sort of other log in information im missing?

    Any help is greatly appreciated

    @dubcity:

    What version of WordPress are you running?

    Its an old one 2.3.1 but I do not know where or how to get into my FTP or shell site to upload any new versions

    @dubcity:

    The login details for wp-admin won’t help you with FTP credentials (at least, I sure hope they’re not the same!).

    You will probably need to consult your webhost in order to help you set up FTP access for your hosting account.

    Great, thank you

    I tried updating word press and now my website is just a blank page. how did this happen and how can it be fixed?

    You might want to seek upgrade/troubleshooting help in either the Installation Support Forum or the How-To and Troubleshooting Support Forum.

    The issue could be related to your Theme, active Plugins, or even your server environment.
