We upload our PDF documents to our WordPress media folder, and create permalinks for each one. This is so that when we make an update to the PDF, we do not have to update all the links on the website and in our emails.

Just this morning, the permalinks would display the PDF in the PDF Viewer like this:

But now the permalink displays this weird page where you now have to click a link to view the PDF, like this: /cfcforms-cfc112/

    What has happened?

  • The first link you gave (that ends in .pdf) is the link to the actual file. The second link (that ends in /) is the WP permalink and it is the attachment page within WordPress.

Yes, we created a permalink for that PDF. The first link is an example of how the page looked this morning.

This permalink /cfcforms-cfc112/ used to go directly to this page /wp-content/uploads/2019/06/CFC112-CFC-Payment-Receipt.pdf

For some unknown reason it changed since this morning.

Figured out that our Redirects plugin was deactivated. Turning it back on fixed this issue.
