Support » Plugin: Media Library Assistant » How to display custom fields and filter by them in "Create Gallery"?

Hi! Thank you very much for this great plugin!

I’ve created some custom fields with MLA:
    /wp-admin/options-general.php?page=mla-settings-menu-custom_field&mla_tab=custom_field

Now I’d like to use these custom fields to filter images in “Create Gallery“:
/wp-admin/post-new.php?post_type=page ☞ click on button “Add Media” ☞ click on “Create Gallery”

Is it possible to show the custom fields created by MLA here for filtering images?

(“Att. Categories” is displayed and that’s great but none of the custom fields stored by MLA in table “postmeta”)

    Best regards,
    Benjamin

Thanks for the kind words and for your question.

I hadn’t thought about using a custom field as an alternative for a taxonomy in the dropdown control but it’s an interesting idea. I will look into adding that as a feature in a future MLA version.

However, your question reminded me of this earlier topic:

    Searching on custom fields

I’ve just done a quick test and the custom field search feature added by the example plugin in the earlier topic works fine in the “Add Media…” popup window, including the Create Gallery tab.

You can follow the instructions in the “MLA Gallery Filters and Actions (Hooks)” section of the /Settings/Media Library Assistant Documentation tab to access the example, mla-custom-field-search-example.php.txt.

I will leave this topic unresolved until I decide on adding a “custom field dropdown” feature. If you have any problems or further questions regarding the example plugin solution outlined in the earlier topic, post an update here and I can give you more specific help. Thanks for your interest in the plugin.

I have uploaded a new MLA Development Version dated 20160701 that includes the ability to filter images by custom field value on the Media/Assistant submenu table. To get the Development Version, follow the instructions in this earlier topic:

Shortcode not working in (special) widget

It would be great if you can install the Development Version and let me know how it works for you. I still have work to do to implement the dropdown on the “Create Gallery” popup window, but I’d like to confirm that the new feature does what you want on the Media/Assistant submenu table. Thanks for your help!

I have uploaded a new MLA Development Version dated 20160703 that completes the ability to filter images by custom field value in the “Add Media”, “Create Gallery” popup windows, as well as the Media/Library “grid mode” screen. This should fully implement the new MLA feature you requested.

To activate the new feature go to the Settings/Media Library Assistant General tab and scroll down to the Taxonomy Support section. At the bottom of the list, pick the custom field you want from the dropdown control and click the radio button in the Filter column. Scroll to the bottom and click Save Changes to record your new settings.

It would be great if you can install the Development Version and let me know how it works for you. I will mark this topic resolved when the new feature goes out in the next MLA version.

    Thank you very much!

I’m sorry I didn’t reply earlier. I’ve made some changes within the childtheme’s function.php to overwrite some little parts of your plugin and finally got what I have needed.

I’ll check out the new options to figure out if it’s increasing the performance asap.

Thanks again for a very valuable plugin and great support!

    Kind regards
    Benjamin

Thanks for your update and for offering to check out the new custom field filtering features. I look forward to your feedback.

You wrote “I’ve made some changes … to overwrite some little parts of your plugin“. If you have anything that might be of general interest, let me know and I will consider them for a future MLA version.

I have uploaded an MLA Development Version dated 20160802 that contains a completely new approach to browsing and installing the MLA Example Plugins. If you navigate to the Settings/Media library Assistant Documentation tab and click the “Example Plugins” button you will see a new submenu that lists all the example plugins and give you a “one-click” action for installing them. I hope this will make future installations of the example plugins more convenient for all MLA users. Thanks for helping to inspire this MLA enhancement.
