Hi there,
The option in the customizer is the global setting. So if you don’t want a sidebar for most of the pages, you would select Content (no sidebars) in the customizer.
Then you can use the metabox options to set a few pages differently if you wish.
This article should explains everything:
https://docs.generatepress.com/article/sidebar-layout/
Let me know if you need more info 🙂
Hello,
Your explanation below doesn’t work with the free version of your theme “, You could try it by yourself if you don’t believe us … or do we need to buy the PRO version ?
“The option in the customizer is the global setting. So if you don’t want a sidebar for most of the pages, you would select Content (no sidebars) in the customizer.
Then you can use the metabox options to set a few pages differently if you wish.”
In the past, we tried during days with the help of your “sidebar-layout” article and Google Search but we failed to set up basic sidebars by pages. As said before, We try to achieve : a right sidebar for the Home page and a left sidebar for the Member page.
Please could you try a clear step by step procedure to set up a right sidebar for the Home page and a left sidebar for the Member page ? (see example below)
Step 1 : Theme Customizer : Layout->Sidebars->Sidebar Layout-> choose “(Content, no sidebars)”
Step 2 : Pages->Home page->Sidebars-> choose “Content/Sidebars”
We confirm you that this step by step procedure doesn’t work BECAUSE in the Theme Customizer, there is a Sidebar Site Wide which force all sidebar layouts of all pages (Layout->Sidebars->Sidebar Layout->(Content, no sidebars), therefore there is NO sidebar in all Pages. You could try it by yourself if you don’t believe us …
Thank you & Regards,
Chris

Can you link me to the 2 pages that aren’t working?
Hello,
We have just tried again with a new site in Localhost and without any plugins to avoid any conflict between your Theme and plugins … We have installed and activated your latest Theme, free version.
I remind you that we want to display a right sidebar for the “Home” page and a left sidebar for the “Member” page
Step 1 : Sidebar Site Wide (Theme Customizer)
Theme Customizer : Layout->Sidebars->Sidebar Layout-> we select “(Content, no sidebars)” and publish it
Step 2 : RIGHT sidebar for the “Home” page
Pages->Home page->Sidebars-> we select “Content/Sidebar” and update the page
Step 3 : LEFT sidebar for the “Member” page
Pages->Member page->Sidebars-> we select “Sidebar/Content” and update the page
Result of the step 1, 2 & 3 :
The “Home” & “Member” pages DON’T display any sidebar.
Please what is wrong and how to set up a right sidebar for the “Home” page and a left sidebar for the “Member” page with a clear and accurate step by step procedure (to avoid any misunderstanding) ?
Thank you & Regards,
Chris
Sorry, we don’t understand your message below :
“Can you link me to the 2 pages that aren’t working?”
We can send you the WP-admin Username & Password but please we need an Email address because WP forum doesn’t offer any Private message option ….
Hello,
As said, we don’t understand your message : “Can you link me to the 2 pages that aren’t working?”
Then, I have just sent you a message with you “Pre-sale” contact form (https://generatepress.com/contact/)
You will find attached our WP-admin Username & Password
This site is just a test site and therefore no risk to update the site …
Thanks in advance,
Chris
Hello,
We have just update the Container Width value to the default one, I mean 1100px and now the Sidebars works well even with different Container Width values … It might be a conflict with other plugins or other … we don’t know …
GeneratePress Theme Customizer :
Layout->Container-> Container Width = 1100px
The “Member” page is a BuddyPress page (Directory of Members) and the left Sidebar doesn’t work, then we have swap the Left and Right Sidebars according to the pages … then a LEFT sidebar for the “Home” page and a RIGHT sidebar for the “Member” … and the problem of Sidebar Location is solved

Chris

Sounds like it could be a caching issue.
Can’t see any reasons why only left or only right would work.
Glad you found a solution though!
Hello Leo,
We thought that the problem was solved but in fact it’s not resolved …
Yes, we use Cache plugin but we have deactivated it …
Moreover, we have installed your theme in Localhost without any plugins and we meet the same issue …
I have just sent again our WP-Admin access to support@generatepress.com
Please could you try to set a RIGHT Sidebar in our the “Members” page ?
If you could set a RIGHT Sidebar in our the “Members” page, Please let us know what was wrong because this Domain is just a test site and if it’s works we could install your GeneratePress Theme in our main site …
Thanks in advance,
Chris
