how can I disable the new Inline Linking tool from WP 4.5.
I like the old one much more.
When I click the gear icon and insert a link, the inline link tool does not go away. this is very annoying.

I’ve deleted everyone’s “me too” response from this thread. Do not post in people’s support topics unless you are supporting them with their issue.

Here is a ‘petition’ thread on the Requests and Feedback forum: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/petition-to-remove-the-inline-linking-tool-from-wp-45

A side note, a lot of the “me too” responses are mentioning behaviors that relate to local caches causing inconsistent behaviors, please see our Master List at https://wordpress.org/support/topic/read-this-first-wordpress-45-master-list where we cover caches as well 🙂

What you are describing interests me though, as we’ve had one other report of this at a point, but nobody has ever been able to reproduce this, could you share with us any plugins you may have installed, what theme you are using, and ideally what browser (and version) and operating system you are using, as it would go a long way to helping us try to see what might be going on?

Thank you very much, are all of these plugins also at the latest version at this point?

    yes,
    sorry for the late reply.

We’ve discovered that the “Rel nofollow checkbox” plugin isn’t compatible with WordPress 4.5, disabling this will most likely sort it for you.

And again, I’m not using that plug-in and nothing has “sorted it” for me. Some of us would just like to revert to the old link editor.

I suppose this might be an awesome opportunity for a savvy plug-in creator…

I’m going to have to ask you to stop jumping in on other peoples threads, it is quite rude.

I’m sorry you dislike the new link window, but you are taking it too far, and this behavior does nothing to help your agenda one bit. If you wish for help then please use the thread you’ve already started and perform the troubleshooting steps provided for you and I am 99.9% certain we’d have sorted you out by now.

@marius, I’ve done the troubleshooting steps. As for rude, deleting my initial posts was rude. But I’m done here.

I made a quickfix plugin that skips the inline part of the process and just opens the old link editor modal. Perhaps someone will find it useful.

It’s a bit of a hack though, don’t depend on it working 100%.

That’s really a big plugin. I had a different approach by simple overwriting the click event on the button ti trigger the old dialog: https://github.com/2ndkauboy/restore-full-link-dialog

Ah, nice, that looks better 🙂 I was doing this during an uneventful day of work, I obviously didnt consider alternatives to the first idea I had.

I mentioned your solution here, I hope you don’t mind.

    Hi Bernhard
Is there a non-developers walk through for this?

Hy there I just released a Plugin, that might solve this problem.

    Advanced WPLink

With this plugin you are able to enable/disable the inline linking tool. Besides that it gives you the possibility to add a rel=”nofollow” tag and some stylings.
