• I went to the dashboard and chose all the right things, but in order to test this I posted a comment under another e-mail address and it showed up under the blog.

I thought if you chose moderate comments then it wouldn’t show up until you let it?

I am going to get flamed badly if I can’t fix this. I need to effectively disable comments like you can in Blogger. I am using WordPress more as a static web page that I can come in and post from time to time.

    Please help

  • Go to Settings, then Discussion in your WP admin page – there you should find settings to moderate, etc comments.

    1. Uncheck “Allow people to post comments on new articles” in Settings->Discussion & save your changes.

    2. Uncheck “Allow comments” on every existing individual Post & Page in the Discussion tab of Edit Post/Page. If you don’t see this tab, click Screen Options and ensure that Discussion is checked.

    3. Edit your theme’s template files to remove all references to comments.

How do I edit my themes template file to remove all references to comments?

    That depends upon your theme.

My theme is Twenty Eleven 1.2

Do not edit the Twenty Eleven theme. It is the default WordPress 3.2 theme and having access to an unedited version of the theme is vital when dealing with a range of site issues.

Create a child theme for your customisations. Once your child theme is active, we should be able to help with the customisation.

    That is Chinese to me.

I went to discussion and unchecked everything. Will comments still be able to be seen or should I just delete the blog and start over.

Some themes may allow you to totally block comments without resorting to moderation, etc. Do a google search for WP themes that allow no comments and then if you like the them, log into your dashboard and search and download that theme.

As for whether or not your comments are seen, the only way to know is to test.

If you’re not familiar with creating a child theme for customizations, I don’t recommend you go down that road without some assistance.

FWIW, You can download a basic Twenty Eleven child theme from http://quirm.net/themes/twenty-eleven-child/
