    Hello team

I installed this plugin on My website and it created a GMC account for Me. Now when I try to delete the account I get this error.

Now since My account was created by the plugin it is fair to say that Automattic / Woocommerce / Plugin author or someone related to the team is the admin of the account and only they can delete the account. This was confirmed by GMC support as well.

So please confirm how can I unlink / delete the account? I sent an email to Automattic as well and they told Me to talk to GMC support who obviously said that they cannot do anything and the account can be deleted only by the admin account.

  • Hi @sanchitgoyal. I understand you’re having a strange account issue with Google Merchant Center.

Now since My account was created by the plugin it is fair to say that Automattic / Woocommerce / Plugin author or someone related to the team is the admin of the account and only they can delete the account. This was confirmed by GMC support as well.

While it’s true that your account would only be able to be deleted by the admin account if it’s a sub-account, your account would not be associated with Automattic’s accounts in any way. Are you able to see what the admin account is or who owns it?

Alternatively, can you simply disconnect that account rather than delete it, and then create a different GMC account that is not a sub-account?

    Hello Austin

    Thanks for the reply.

While it’s true that your account would only be able to be deleted by the admin account if it’s a sub-account, your account would not be associated with Automattic’s accounts in any way. Are you able to see what the admin account is or who owns it?

Before installing this plugin I did not have any account on Merchant centre. When you install the plugin it asks you to-

    1.) Connect your wordpress.com account

2.) Connect your google merchant centre account

After I connected My wordpress.com account and entered My google email it automatically created an account which I later found out while deleting that it is a sub account.

Now either the admin account is of WordPress / Automattic or My own WordPress.com account but I dont see any option to delete or unlink the GMC from My wordpress account. So I am quite sure (also kind of confirmed by Google) that it is related to this plugin only.

Also this problem wont be too difficult to replicate. You just have to install the plugin on a new website and use an email address with no prior GMC account and it would be created as a subaccount.

Alternatively, can you simply disconnect that account rather than delete it, and then create a different GMC account that is not a sub-account?

I am using 1 gmail account to access all google services which is unfortunately locked now due to it being a sub account. If I use another google account specifically for GMC I would have to do a lot of to and fro when chosing google services.

@sanchitgoyal After some more digging, I think you were correct originally: I suspect your Merchant Center account is somehow tied to / a sub-account of ours. I didn’t know this was the way it worked until I start looking into this issue.

I’m researching how you can delete your account right now. When I have a solid answer, I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.

    Thanks!

Im having the same problem. Iv had issues with the URL being connected to another MC account. Turns out that 3 accounts have been made by the plugin and i can’t delete them as they’re classed as a sub account.

I can’t get past the merchant centre step

    Hey @mehrabz,

If you need any further help, per the forum guidelines, can you please start your own topic?

    Thanks!

I am also having this issue and receive the error as below while trying to delete the account

‘This account is a sub-account. It is linked to a main account. To delete this sub-account, contact the administrator of the main account’

GMC confirmed Woocommerce is the main account creator

Earlier in this thread you quote ‘I didn’t know this was the way it worked until I start looking into this issue’ which sounds a little strange to me that you were unaware how your own plugin works.

I have submitted a ticket and await the reply
    Thanks

Thanks you replied to my ticket and I got an email from Google confirming deleted.

I found it a really good plugin. I don’t think I had any issues setting it up and connecting my products to the google merchant account was easy. I only stopped using it because google merchant decided majority of my products were disallowed due to the nature of the products so I don’t really need it.

I had two merchant accounts that got created and needed to delete one. After a couple hours of searching I finally bit the bullet and contacted Google Support. It only took a few minutes to get it resolved…

From your Google Merchant account, contact google support via chat…
Ask them to convert the WooCommerce sub-account # to a standalone account.
Logout and back in, then you will be able to delete the account.
