  • Resolved emergination

I’m creating my first WordPress theme! But I can’t get it to load up in the backend 🙁 I have tried uploading a zip file and FTPing manually, but instead of listing the theme with the other installed themes I always get this error:

The active theme is broken. Reverting to the default theme.

No details or hints, just that my theme is broken.

I installed the WP Debug plugin hoping it would give me some info, but it’s not giving me any debug info in the Admin section.

I’m not really sure how to debug my theme. I’ve searched Google and the forums but haven’t found anything useful yet. I’m on my own CentOS server, PHP5.x, MySQL 5.x, with several existing WordPress websites installed.

How can I get started debugging my theme? Thanks!

  • I am guessing you got a style.css and a index.php in the theme folder of yours – /wp-content/themes/your-theme-name/ ?

Oh my gosh it’s always something stupid and simple 🙂

My CSS files are in a css folder because I concatenate, minify and cache a master css file from several css component files. I’ll have to keep them in the css folder and write the minified version to style.css in the main template folder.

    Thank you Snat!!
