Hi, I see there are 6 templates in the current version of the plug-in. I want to create my own template or modify an existing one but not sure where to start.

Also, when using the default Book Review Template, on archive page for some reason the field values are scrunched up together. Is there a way to fix it?

    Thanks,

See Below as an example (I create a category called Book Review).

I apologize I want to add to my question. I want to display additonal fields including the permalink to the review itself on book’s review page in the frontend.

The steps I understand are first creating a customer user meta box with the custom meta fields. Then I use the Custom User Meta extension to make the customer user meta box “available” to the Recencio plugin. Finally I show the meta box using the template. Is my understanding correct?

    Thanks,

    Hello @bookworm48
    Sorry for the delayed response.

For the first question, this is happening because your theme is reading the first couple sentence of the book review to use as an excerpt. With the default template, the first couple of sentences is the book detail but without the CSS styling, so it looks jumbled up. (I do hope this makes sense to you.)

The easiest fix is to try add an excerpt to your reviews and see if your theme will use that instead. Or, you can create a child-theme and code it to use some other piece of data for the excerpt of archive pages.

For the second question, it goes…

    1. Create a new metadata field via the “Custom User Metadata” extension.
    2. Go to “Settings” –> “Template” –> “Book Detail Items” then make sure your new metadata field is in this list.
    3. Create a review, add your new metadata info, then publish your reviw.

Thanks for your reply. Sorry I was away for a few days. I see what you mean now. I will look into the CSS approach.

As for the second question, as a test I created a field using the Custom User Metadata extension called book_review_url as a test. I am able to add that to a template under Recencio->Settings->Template. However, what is the actual meta field key in the backend? I am hoping to see a custom field key that starts with rcno_* like the others. But I am not able to find it anywhere. Do you know where to find it? Thanks in advance.

Just want to follow up on my question on where to the the custom field key for a field created using the Custom User Metadata extension. Thanks again.

Create a natural custom meta title e.g., “Book Review URL” then the plugin will use rcno_bookreviewurl_meta as the meta key in the wp_postmeta table.

So the plugin strip spaces, convert to lowercase then prepend rcno_ and append _meta.

Sorry for the delay. I have confirmed what you describe. Thanks for your help.
