[resolved] How to create a new main site and use existing subdomain as additional site (4 posts)

I currently have one blog installed as a sub-domain (i.e me.domain.com). I'd like to create a new main site (i.e. domain.com) and then retain my existing me.domain.com as a sub-domain.

When I attempt to Create a Network I receive the following instructions:

Because your install is not new, the sites in your WordPress network must use sub-domains. The main site in a sub-directory install will need to use a modified permalink structure, potentially breaking existing links.

What is the best way to achieve this?

    Thanks,
    Mike

Sorry, I was a little too vague in my question.

    To clarify:

What is the best way to create a new main site for a network and then import the previous main site as a sub-domain of the new main site while maintaining the theme, plug-ins, post, pages, settings, etc. that are used in the site being imported.

  3. Set up your install in maindomain.com.

    make the second (pre-exisiting) site.

You really will have to take down the other site. make a ton of backups. move the plugin & theme files over to the new install.

If the internal export -Import aren't enough and you don't want to fiddle with setting up widgets & options all over again, you can dump things right in the db.

(yes is says MU, but the process is exactly the same)

If you're not comfortable messing aroudn in your db & dropping & replacing tables, then I suggest you just set things up manually from the backend.
