before I bang my head against the wall, I need some help in what I should download (wordpress templates, plugins, etc.) inorder to make a bocce ball web site. The site requirements will be to enter teams and their names, players and which team they belong to (along with just their name, phone # and e-mail) and the won/loss record and standings stuff.

Other ‘sprinkles’ could be importing csv files of the schedule to avaoid alot of manual entry, links to other sites of interest, some nice photos, end of season celebration and other similar stuff.

As you can see, I have’t even downloaded WP yet – I am just trying to to get any basic help on what I should use and then I can take it from there.

  • Take a look at the WordPress showcase to get an idea of what WordPress can do. Everything you are asking about is doable in WordPress – but the better question to ask is whether you have enough WordPress/PHP/html/css/JavaScript knowledge to build out what you’re asking for. What you’re asking for doesn’t come “built” out – you would need to develop the functionality using WordPress’s API (documentation here: https://developer.wordpress.org/reference/), some of which functionality can be accomplished using plugins. I would suggest setting up a local test server and playing around with WordPress. Then play with some themes and plugins and build on top of the WordPress basics, and then start exploring the more advanced functionality and capabilities you might need to build the site. And as with anything WordPress, there are many ways to accomplish things…
