How-to create a 2 column-2 author loop easily?

Hello fellow wordpressers!

I am trying to transform a theme for myself and my sister in the style of this theme: http://demo.colorlabsproject.com/adam-eve/

A two column theme, split in the middle with our own posts in our own columns.

I can’t really wrap my head around the specifics of how to make it come true. I can modify a theme, that’s the easy part. But I am more of a cut and paste kind of girl.

I’ve gone through the extensive template of the A&E theme but there must be an easier way…?

Maybe some tweaking with ‘php the author’ or some tweaks of ‘php the category’?
